More than 10,000 young entrepreneurs have set on the path of making a living with professional gaming. They have plenty of options to choose from in order to create a name for themselves and start earning a serious salary. Here at Market Inspector we have been doing some research about the interesting phenomenon of professional gamers.
Some choose to become e-athletes and pour all of their time and efforts practicing for tournaments (with their team or by themselves) where they would compete for glory and grand cash prizes. “While top players can earn millions in prizes, only 40 percent of professional players make a living off of gaming,” writes SuperData founder and chief analyst Joost van Dreunen . “Since prize pools only go to a small portion of teams, most players earn a modest salary ranging from $12,000 to $40,000 a year.”
That is why, most professional gamers choose to diversify their revenue streams and try out different ways to pull in cash. The most popular choice is streaming while playing. With the help of platforms like TwitchTV and YouTube, prominent gamers have the opportunity to put out content and amass a following of viewers, earning money based on that. There are a number of games that dominate the streaming scene and attract more than 100 million viewers a month to Twitch alone. Depending on the player's personality, ambition and hard work, they can earn a hefty salary from streaming.
